Ginger Fox, (born sometime in 1984), is a fictional American singer portrayed by Betsy Rue in the episode, iFix a Pop Star, which is the only episode she appeared in. She is said to be a parody of Britney Spears.

The music video for Fox's song, "Hate Me, Love Me," was the number one most viewed video of all time. Afterwards though, Fox eventually suffered a mental breakdown and stopped working for years. According to the iCarly gang, she has no talent whatsoever (cannot sing, dance, keep a rhythm, etc.), but a lot of fans still love her. Fox made her comeback seven years later during a live performance at the Pop Music Awards with her single, Number One, with the help of the iCarly crew. Although Fox was not lip-syncing very well and "marching around the stage like an idiot", she made a surprisingly popular comeback and was a big hit, much to the confusion of the iCarly gang.

Fox's son, Billy (who Carly, Sam, and Freddie have to babysit), is shown and her ex-husband is mentioned but other than them, none of her other family members are seen.

Fox has major anger issues and once threw a fork that landed on Freddie's shoulder in a fit of rage. She is very lazy and unmotivated, have no interest in putting any effort into her comeback. Additionally, Fox is shown to be a disgusting slob, as she rarely cleans up after herself and is viewed as repugnant by everyone else for her habits, such as throwing her food remains around and never having good hygiene. Despite this, Fox is highly egotistical, believing that she is still a big star. In reality during rehearsal, Fox sang terribly, not even trying to hit and remember all the right words and notes, and she couldn't even dance to the rhythm.

According to Sam, Fox was once voted Sexiest Woman of the Year, but now no longer cares about her appearance; Fox's armpits are not shaved and, during the concert comeback, the iCarly crew has to hide her behind smoke. It's said on iCarly.com that Fox hasn't shaved her armpits in 4 years - since her last #1 hit.

Fox was also mentioned several times in the Victorious episode, "Freak the Freak Out," when Hayley Ferguson and Tara Ganz sing Ginger Fox's song "Number One", and later, "Hate Me, Love Me". Erwin Sikowitz, the Hollywood Arts acting teacher, also sings "Number One".

Trivia[]

  • She is named after Ginger Grant, a movie star from the 1964 sitcom Gilligan's Island and played by actress Tina Louise.
  • Ginger Fox owns a pet rabbit that can be taught to do tricks.
  • Sam reveals her age to be 26 and old in iFix a Popstar.
  • It is unknown if Fox was genuinely talented in the past before her breakdown or always relied on special effects. According to Freddie, even before Fox had her breakdown, most of her singing relied on certain audio-tunes and other effects, although considering how he meant this in general for every pop star, it’s possible Fox was indeed a decent singer before hand.

References to Britney Spears[]

  • Fox's performance in the episode is a reference to Spears's at the 2007 MTV Video Music Awards; both pretty women didn't know how to dance and lip-synched during the entire show.
  • Fox's song, "Hate Me, Love Me," is likely a parody of Britney Spears's popular 2008 song, "If U Seek Amy," in which the chorus line is "Love me, hate me, say what you want about me, but all of the boys and all of the girls are begging to if you seek Amy". Despite that, Carly remarks that the video for "Hate Me, Love Me" was most likely made several years before that song.
  • Ginger's ex-husband gained custody of their son, Billy Fox, after they divorced. The same thing happened to Britney Spears after she divorced from her own ex-husband, Kevin Federline.
  • Carly, Sam, and Freddie watch a video of Fox washing her hair with blue cheese dressing outside while paparazzi accost her. This is a reference to a 2008 video of Britney Spears sitting outside with her dog crying while paparazzi accost her.
  • Fox is self-credited as one of the biggest pop stars in the world (like EVER), just like Britney Spears.
  • Sam mentions that Ginger needed psychiatric help due to having a mental breakdown, which is a reference to the time that Britney Spears spent in a rehabilitation clinic during late 2007.
  • The song that Fox sings in the awards has a similar beat to Britney Spears's 2008 hit song "Womanizer".
