"Ready for your new car?"
Carly to Nevel.

iGive Away a Car is the 11th episode of the second season of iCarly and the 36th episode overall.

Plot

Carly, Sam and Freddie host a contest for a free new car from Flanken Motors after a boy who identifies himself as Jeffery claims that his father suggested the contest. The winner, shockingly, is Nevel Papperman. When Freddie and Sam go to retrieve the car for him, the two find out that the owner of the car dealership never authorized a contest with them and does not even have a son. After arguing with Nevel, they find out he was the one who sent Jeffery to them, but iCarly must still provide him with a car or they will get shut down for fraud by the LCC.

Meanwhile, Spencer buys a space cruiser prop from Galaxy Wars online, but finds out that he was simply fooled by a replica. He decides to return it to a storage facility as he cannot bear looking at the fake. However, when he requests for the movers to bring back the couch, he gets charged with an extra fee. They take the couch when Spencer tells them that he cannot afford their rate. In the end, Spencer hires Socko’s cousin, Rob, to steal back their couch. The iCarly team decides to fit the space cruiser with an engine and give it to Nevel as his new car. When Nevel crashes it into a flower shop, Mr. Bullock from the LCC decides the prop fit the technical definition of a "new car" and iCarly is saved. At the end, all of them go get popsicles.

Carly, Sam, and the bra who tells ghost stories.

  • One car in the Flanken Motors dealership lot is identical to the car that Miranda Cosgrove used in order to learn to drive, a 2009 Dodge Challenger owned by Dan Schneider.
  • The rusted car the iCarly crew attempt to give to Nevel is a GT6_Mk_I 1967 Triumph GT6 Mk1.
Nevel-Igive away a car

Trickster206?

  • George the Bra who tells ghost stories, makes an appearance and surprisingly seems to actually manage to tell a scary story.
  • The parking lot area for Bushwell Plaza was shown.
  • 2 scenes were cut when this episode aired in the UK:
    • Don Flanken making up words past "Something functional".
    • Nevel mentioning that he is about to rid the internet of iCarly forever, with Spencer, and Mr. Bullock "bumming" his joy.
  • There was originally a scene in this episode where Sam throws a lemon, but it was cut and remained in the opening titles.
  • Nevel, as well as the so-called Jeffrey Flanken, could have been charged with entrapment themselves, with “Flanken” being charged with identity theft.
  • Spencer buys a prop space vehicle from the movie "Galaxy Wars." Galaxy Wars was previously talked of in the show "Drake and Josh" and is most likely based off of Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope (1977). The space vehicle Spencer buys online is called "The Proton Cruiser", and its design greatly resembles the design of two popular vehicles from Star Wars along with Star Trek: The Original Series (1966). The engines, gray color, and orange pinstripes greatly resembles the USS Enterprise from Star Trek. The overall design of the ship along with the cockpit, resembles the Snow Speeder and X Wing from Star Wars. In this episode, Spencer also pulls out a communicator (before entering the Proton Cruiser) that looks and sounds exactly like the communicator used in the original Star Trek series. Also, Galaxy Wars was mentioned as a "historical documentary" in an episode of the adult animated series Futurama titled "Raging Bender".
  • On modern airings of the episode that include TV or streaming services like Paramount+, the lines where Don Flanken mentions his daughter who acts "manish" and has to take her to a "special doctor" have been removed, presumably due to them being considered transphohic.

Allusions

  • The pickle jar that Sam drinks from at the beginning of the episode says "Schneider's" on the label. This is a reference to the show's creator, Dan Schneider.
  • The LCC is an obvious parody of the FCC.
  • The website which Spencer buys the Proton Cruiser from is called "Craig's Mix", a parody of the popular website, "Craigslist." The logo with each letter a different color is a nod to the logo of eBay.
  • One of the movers mentions the book called "The Sisters Who Had Magic Pants", a spoof of "The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants". Spencer had already read the book and in rage, yelled to the mover, "At the end of the book, they find out the pants aren't magic and the middle sister dies!", (the plot of Little Women), then he slams the door.
  • Sam mentions Freddie and Spencer discussing Galaxy Wars as "Dorks Gone Wild," a pun of "Girls Gone Wild."
  • If you look closely, the mean movers' names are Dave and Buster: a reference to the restaurant/arcade Dave & Buster's.

Character Revelations

Socko's Cousin Rob

  • Freddie has a jewelry box because Mrs. Benson wanted a daughter.
  • Spencer's favorite movie is "Galaxy Wars."
  • Spencer's friend Socko has an uncle named Otto who sells used cars. Socko also has a cousin named Rob who steals things.
  • When Nevel grows up, he wants to run a haberdashery, which Nevel says is a men's retail store selling zippers, buttons, belts, etc. This is the US definition - in the rest of the world, a haberdashery is a shop that sells sewing supplies.
  • Spencer claims that Carly takes long showers whenever she gets depressed -- in this episode for example, Spencer says that Carly took a chair into the shower with her this time around, indicating that she was planning on being in there for quite some time.
  • Nevel can play the recorder very well.

Goofs

  • Carly and Sam open the envelope, read the answer to the "brain buster", then immediately announce the name of the winner of the contest on iCarly. However, as they did not know the answer to the "brain buster" in advance, after they opened the envelope they would have to search through all the entries to find the winner, which would have taken some time.
  • As seen later in the episode, Nevel accidentally revealed that he rigged the contest as a plan to get rid of iCarly. The iCarly gang could have gone to Mr. Bullock and told him that Nevel rigged the contest so he would win and try to destroy iCarly. They also could have taken him to Flanken Motors and have Don confirm he never authorized the contest, which creates more evidence that Nevel rigged the contest.
    • Mr. Bullock, most likely, would've claimed that the iCarly should've checked with Flanken Motors beforehand, to ensure the contest was legitimate, before going ahead with it on their show, and would still hold them responsible for awarding Nevel a new car.
  • When Spencer was showing Carly, Sam and Freddie the Galaxy Wars Proton Cruiser on his laptop, the word "View" in "View Bid History" was spelled "Veiw".
  • Nevel could not have been old enough to drive a car. In iNevel, it was revealed that he was only 11. Thus, Nevel could have been no older than 13 in this episode. In Washington state, one must be 15 to get a learner’s permit.
  • The name of the Proton Cruiser from Galaxy Wars is "Rogue IV", but it is misspelled as "ROUGE IV" on both sides of the ship. However, since the ship was stenciled, "NOT AN ACTUAL PROP FROM THE MOVIE GALAXY WARS", it was likely misspelled on purpose to indicate that it was not an actual prop.
  • Mr. Bullock claims that if Carly, Sam and Freddie did not provide the winner a new car, iCarly would be shut down. In reality, they would have simply been sued for false advertisement. As this show takes place in its own TV sitcom world with an LCC agency, one has to assume in this world the LCC has the power to shut down the show.
  • When Sam beats up Nevel in the hallway, when the fight is done, her hair is messed up in the medium shot. But when it goes to a long shot, her hair is still messed up but is more neatly combed when inside Carly's apartment.

Running Gags

  • Spencer says "Pewww".

Series Continuity

  • Nevel tries to ruin iCarly for the third time after iNevel and iRue the Day.
  • This is the second time legal action is threatened against the iCarly gang, when Nevel attempted to get their website shut down for fraud. The first time is in iPromote Techfoots, when Daka threatened to sue them for violating the terms of a contract.
  • This is the first time that Freddie says "In 5,4,3,2" outside of doing the web show. He does the countdown when he and the girls do their cupcake game at the start.
  • Nevel's dream of owning a haberdashery is indirectly mentioned in the revival episode iFaked It, when he pretends to be Carly.

Quotes

Spencer: Guess what happened?!
Sam: Your belly button started talking to you!
Spencer: ... No ... but that would be so cool!

Carly: [To Jeffery] So, what kind of contest?
Sam: How about guess the number of zits on Freddie's butt?
Jeffery: Wow, that's really gross. No, see, my dad wants the contest to be a brain buster; something you really gotta figure out.
Freddie: Oh ... like how many of Sam's relatives are on parole?
Sam: Hey, don't go banging on my aunt Maggie, cousin Garth, and Uncle Morris, all right?
Carly: We're having a meeting! [To Jeffery] So, we challenge our viewers to figure out the brainbuster, and then the first person who sends in the right answer wins the car?
Jeffery: Yep.
Carly: Love it.
Sam: It would give iCarly a lot of buzz.
Freddie: Oh yeah, isn't your uncle Buzz on parole too?

Carly: [gives the envelope with the answer to the question for the contest to Freddie] Here, why don't you lock this in your jewelry box?
[Everyone looks at Freddie, trying not to laugh]
Freddie: My mom wanted a daughter, okay?!

Nevel: Well?
Sam: [Mockingly] Well?

Nevel: On your web show, you said, "All you gotta do is answer this brain buster", and I was the first person to send in the correct answer to iCarly.com and then ...
Sam: WE KNOW WHAT HAPPENED!!
Freddie: We're not saying you didn't win the car!
Nevel: Then where is it?! I don't see a car! All I hear is a lot of prattle ...
Sam: [screams and attacks Nevel]

[After Nevel reads a legal text about fraud to them]
Freddie: If you just give us a couple of days ...
Carly: Wait a minute. Why do you have that printed out?
Nevel: Because I like to print things.
Freddie: No! You would only print that out if you knew you were gonna need it!
Sam: Yeah, how did you know there was gonna be a problem getting you the car?
Nevel: Please, I don't have time to be interviewed.
Carly: You set this whole thing up! That Jeffery guy or whatever his real name is, you sent him to us, didn't you?!
Nevel: Oh, I don't know, I send a lot of guys a to a lot of places.
Carly: [in disbelief] You evil, evil little elf.

Nevel: You have 48 hours, iCarly! Tick, tock, tick, tock, tick, tock, tick, tock, tick, tock... [they close the door on him, but he continues anyway] Tick, tock, tick, tock, tick, tock, tick, tock ...

Carly: Are you ready, Nevel?
Nevel: [sarcastically] Yes, my heart is pounding.
Sam: Good, maybe it'll explode.

Nevel: What is that poop?
Freddie: It's your new car.
Nevel: That car's not new.
Carly: It's new to you.

Carly: What's wrong with you, Nevel?! Why is your lifelong dream to get rid of iCarly?!
Nevel: It's not! My lifelong dream is to open my own haberdashery.
Freddie: … What's a haberdashery?
Nevel: [miserably] Oh, why does everyone ask that?! [walks away, then returns] A haberdashery is a men's retail shop that sells men's accessories such as wallets, hats, buttons, belts, ribbons, and zippers! [storms off again]

Sam: Where's Carly? I've been calling and texting her for hours.
Spencer: She's been in the shower.
Sam: All day?
Spencer: Pretty much. She takes really long showers when she gets depressed.
Sam: Well, when do you think she's going to come out?
Spencer: I don't know ... she took a chair in there.
