"You forgot about your Green Week project, didn't you?" |
iGo Nuclear (also known as iGo Green[2]) is the 17th episode of the second season of iCarly and the 42nd episode overall. This episode aired on Earth Day.
Plot
Sam, Carly, and Freddie have to make environmentally friendly science projects for "National Green Week" at school, as assigned by their eccrentric science teacher Mr. Henning. But the students are warned that the projects will count over a huge portion of their final grade, and anyone who wants extra credit has to join Mr. Henning for his annual "Root and Berry Retreat" in the forest. Carly plans on making a diorama of worms composting soil, but she is too afraid of worms to make it. Freddie makes an exquisitely fancy one with worms imported from Portugal, which disappoints Carly into just fashioning an "environmentally friendly" scooter with a car battery, which only goes 4 miles an hour and shorts out in the rain. Freddie and Carly don’t do well, although they make projects ordinary teachers would approve of, but not Mr. Henning, on the grounds that Freddie's worms were flown in on an airplane, giving him a "D", and Carly's car battery requires a huge amount of power to charge, which gives her a "D-", while Sam ironically gets an "A" by doing an improvised speech on biodegradable packaging while eating an orange, having prepared nothing beforehand.
To avoid going on the retreat for extra credit alongside Freddie, Carly gets a week to make new projects. She attempts to use Spencer's tomato plant to make a vegetable composter, but ends up destroying it. Luckily, Spencer meets a physics expert named Cal, who has just moved in, who helps Carly builds an "environmentally friendly" power generator which uses a mysterious main fuel supply which Cal claims "comes from nature". The generator is used to power an episode of iCarly, and Mr. Henning gives Carly an "A+" for her outstanding creation.
However, when the gang goes to Groovy Smoothie to celebrate, a couple of police happen by Cal and recognize him as a criminal, causing him to run out; the police reveal Cal is a wanted criminal who buys and sells black market uranium rods to create nuclear power, which is extremely illegal, and one of the rods happened to be the main fuel supply used to power the generator Carly made. Since Mr. Henning realized Carly built an illegal nuclear reactor, Carly's grade is reverted to a D- and she is forced to go on the retreat to get a decent grade.

Trivia
- This episode is also known as "iGo Green".[3]
- At the very beginning of the episode, Ridgeway High School is seen as a completely different building compared to Ridgeway School shown in other episodes. The reason for this is unknown so far. It could possibly be another building on the same campus.
- The case that supposedly contained the black market uranium has a Slavic text reading: "ПЛУТОНИЙ." This means "plutonium" in Russian.
- During the scene at the Groovy Smoothie, if the viewer listens very carefully, the theme song of Drake & Josh can be heard playing in the background.
- The reason why Gibby goes on the retreat is because he likely failed his environmental project.
- This is the first appearance of Gibby's mother.
- This is the first time Sam gets an A, while ironically, Carly and Freddie get a D-.
- Carly is nervous when trying to hold a worm as they are wiggly.
- The road Carly uses to get to school with her scooter has been seen in iDo and the Victorious episodes "Freak the Freak Out" and "The Wood." The street is called "Leland Way", and it is located across the street from Nickelodeon on Sunset studios.
- This episode aired on a Wednesday so it could be aired on Earth Day. This episode and iBloop 2 - Electric Bloopaloo are the only episodes to air on a Wednesday.
- Foreshadowing: Cal's nervous answer “Let’s just say it comes from nature.” when Carly asks about what the power source foreshadows the fact he’s a wanted criminal and the fuel supply contains an illegal substance.
- Cal was also seen wearing dark sunglasses during the webcast, foreshadowing his status as a criminal and trying to conceal himself from the public as he was on the FBI Most Wanted List.
- In the UK, the "Random Strobing" was cut due to the strobe lights likely causing seizures.
- In keeping with the green theme of the episode, the closing credits are "recycled" from the pilot episode.
- Two mistakes were kept in the final cut: 1) When Jennette McCurdy jammed her thumb in the orange and squirted the juice above her head, she got some in her eyes and down her throat. 2) A scene on the Groovy Smoothie set where Miranda Cosgrove bumped her elbow on the table.

Goofs
- Spencer's "tomato plant" is not a real tomato plant because the leaves are wrong - it is a tropical houseplant with tomatoes attached to it (it is not clear if the plant and tomatoes are real or artificial).
- Cal said high plutonium comes from nature, which is a lie, because any element in the periodic table above number 92 (uranium) is too unstable to occur in nature, and plutonium's number on the periodic table is 94. Then again, Cal was lying to conceal what the power source actually was.
- Even though Mr. Henning sees the generator, which has the plutonium core clearly visible, he thinks it is a real environmentally friendly generator and says nothing until they are at the Groovy Smoothie.
- In reality, Cal would've been an international criminal due to the fact he probably smuggled the plutonium from Russia.
- There are some goofs involving the nuclear generator:
- It wouldn't have generated any energy as nuclear reactors generate power by heating water to make steam for steam turbines, whose mechanical energy is converted to electrical energy.
- In reality, Carly, Sam, Freddie, Spencer, Cal, and Mr. Henning would have needed radiation-proof suits to prevent radiation poisoning.
- Also, the reactor would have melted down without any coolant, as uranium burns incredibly hot and needs super chilled water to avoid meltdowns, which would have caused a major radiation fallout for a huge part of Seattle.
- When Sam presents her project, she stands behind a desk at the front of the class. Immediately after, Carly comes in with her scooter and the desk disappears.
- When Freddie and Carly are discussing their projects, presumably in the afternoon, they are wearing the same clothes they had on in class that morning. Freddie wheels his composting project in (including worms flown in from Portugal), so somehow Freddie was able to complete his project on the same day it was assigned.
- In the root and berry camp, when Mr. Henning is looking outside of the tent, the stage lights are clearly visible on his glasses.
Running Gags
- Someone mentioning the root and berry retreat.

Carly: [screams and throws a worm at the ceiling] Aww, you stuck to the ceiling. |
Carly: You think I'm pudgy. |
Freddie: You forgot about your Green Week project, didn't you? |
Sam: [to class] Behold, the humble orange. So many of our foods and beverages today are sold with all kinds of needless packaging which end up right in our nation's trashcans. Well, I say to heck will packaging! If I'm thirsty I could just do this. [stabs her thumb into orange and drinks some of the juice] Mmm, that was refreshing, but wait, now I'm hungry. Hmm. What should I ... [eats orange] See, I just had a drink and a snack, and now, I simply dispose of the biodegradable orange carcass. [throws orange peel out the window] |
Freddie: WHAT? Noo! She just jammed her thumb into an orange! |
Sam: So, Cal, you got a teenaged brother? Maybe one a little better-looking than you? |
Spencer: Cal and I met down in the laundry room. He let me borrow his Stain Stick. |
Cop: He buys and sells black market uranium rods to create nuclear power, which is extremely illegal, you guys know anything about that? |
Mr. Henning: You built an illegal nuclear-power generator? |
